5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Send Your CV to Edhouse
Tech_blog
It's been 5 years since I first traveled to Zlín to meet new colleagues. I've spent my "five-year plan" on several very interesting projects and learned a lot of new things along the way. How else to celebrate such an anniversary than with a recap here on the blog? But somehow it got out of hand, and in the end, I wrote down 5 reasons why you definitely shouldn't send your CV to Edhouse. So what will our HR probably hide from you during the interview?
You Won't Have Anyone to Complain About
There's nothing better than complaining about work colleagues at home! But that hasn't happened to me in these 5 years. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe luck, but personally, I rather suspect our HR department simply knows how to select colleagues who fit into the team. When I have to complain about someone, it's only about myself for perhaps planning something poorly.
You'll find that magical "friendly collective" or "family atmosphere" in almost every job advertisement. But believe me, it's often just an empty phrase. With us, however, it's 100% true. Discussing the intricacies of minor scales over a beer with a colleague on one side and apartment renovation with the company owner on the other? No problem.
You'll Have to Learn to Play the Drums
Speaking of minor scales, the concentration of musicians in Edhouse is (in my opinion) above average. Pulling out a guitar at a team building event is no big deal; a few will likely already be out. When the guitar then circles the whole group around the campfire and MáSlo pulls out jingles from 90s bedtime stories where "the whole family sings," there's no doubt that every Edhouse employee is a musician.
Saša is a guitarist and also a bit of a developer
And when someone isn't exactly a musician, they act in theater, paint, or maybe dance. Just all artists.
The only thing we're missing in this regard is drummers. We could use at least one in Olomouc. If you can play the drums and maybe even program a little, get in touch!
You'll Have to Train a Bit More for the Half Marathon
Another group of colleagues consists of athletes. You'll find Edhouse jerseys everywhere - in the forest, on the track, on the street, or on the bike path. Besides running, cycling is very popular, as well as football and floorball, in which there's even a company tournament from time to time.
In the morning, it can sometimes look like a race in the office. A queue in front of the shower, the bike room full, and the last spot on the drying rack for a towel. First come, first served!
Expect to Loosen Your Belt
All that running has its merits. Every now and then, someone is celebrating a birthday or other anniversary, and the tables in the kitchenette constantly provide a supply of goodies of all kinds. When we add pizza lunches, breakfasts with newcomers, or barbecues on the terrace of the new Olomouc branch, maintaining a slim figure becomes a daily battle.
And when it happens that no one is celebrating anything, we have a competition for the best pound cake. We make software and bake cakes!
Keeping up-to-date with technologies is a necessity for developers. But at Edhouse, it's only part of the knowledge we need to expand. Developing new features or applications for an electron microscope means understanding electron microscopy as well. This applies to almost all projects we work on. Some might see it as an obstacle, but I see it as a great challenge and opportunity to expand my knowledge. Maybe that's also why I enjoy this work - poking around in things, figuring them out, and understanding how they work.
And when we're not learning, we're teaching. We regularly organize company workshops or conferences and share the information and experiences we've gathered among ourselves. We also teach children the basics of programming as part of the Edison to Schools program.
